2009 ULTRA HIGH RELIEF $20 DOUBLE EAGLE |
|
The 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 Double Eagle was one of the most highly anticipated coins in recent history. The coin recreates that original vision of designer Augustus Saint Gaudens that could not be realized in his time. The 2009 Ultra High Relief was reproduced by digitally mapping the coin plasters from the original dies from the 1907 minting with some updates. The obverse of the coin carries the current date of 2009 dated in Roman Numerals MMIX. |

| The number of stars has been updated from the original 46 to 50, representing the current number of US states. The reverse has had the inscription “In God We Trust” added between the sun and its rays. Both sides of the coin have a small border added along the edge. The coins are struck in 24 karat gold and each contain 1oz. of pure .999 Fine Gold. The first coin was struck at the West Point Mint on November 24, 2008. In 1908, the Saint Gaudens High Relief was the most beautiful coin ever minted. This stunning coin was the result of two historical icons, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of the most famous American sculptors of the 20th century, and President Theodore Roosevelt.
They both encouraged the U. S. Mint to deliver historical numismatic classics with their unique and original designs for America’s coinage. The 1908 Ultra High Relief $20 St. Gaudens in MS 69 recently sold for over $575,000.00 These 2009 High Relief’s are a great investment for the future. There is no word from the U. S. Mint that there will be any more minted in years to come. Order today and secure your piece of classic American History. The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is detailed examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins.
